Modelling the effect of proposed channel deepening on the tides in Port Phillip Bay

چکیده
The Victorian State Government is investigating a proposal to deepen the channels into Port Phillip Bay in order to bring larger ships into the Bay. The Port of Melbourne Corporation, the Victorian State Government authority responsible for the channel deepening, concluded that the largest increase in tidal height due to the channel deepening will be eight mm. We independently study the effect of the channel deepening on the astronomical tides. Our results show that the effect of channel deepening on the astronomical tides will be to increase the maximum tidal height at most locations. We calculate that the largest increase will be seven mm, confirming the results of the Port of Melbourne Corporation.

Modelling of Sediment Transport in Beris Fishery Port
In this paper, the large amount of sedimentation and the resultant shoreline advancements at the breakwaters of Beris Fishery Port are studied. A series of numerical modeling of waves, sediment transport, and shoreline changes were conducted to predict the complicated equilibrium shoreline. The outputs show that the nearshore directions of wave components are not perpendicular to the coast whic...
متن کاملHydrodynamic Modelling of Coral Reefs:Ningaloo Reef-Western Australia
As with all coral reef systems, the ecology of Ningaloo Reef is closely linked to water circulation which transport and disperse key material such as nutrients and larvae. Circulation on coral reefs may be driven by a number of forcing mechanisms including waves, tides, wind, and buoyancy effects. Surface waves interacting with reefs have long been known to dominate the currents on many coral r...

As the first phase of a series of monitoring and modeling studies of Iranian coastal areas, Chabahar Bay, located on the north coast of the Gulf of Oman, was under a comprehensive monitoring and modeling study in 2006-2007. The study included an extensive one-year field measurements program to help understanding the ongoing processes in the bay and provide inputs or boundary conditions and vali...

This paper deals with simulation modeling of the vessel traffic in Delaware River. The purpose is to study the impact of deepening on the navigational efficiency in the River. In this regard, vessel calls to terminals, lightering and barge operations, tidal and navigational rules in the River, terminal and anchorage properties as well as vessel profiles are considered in the model. The simulati...

The status of metal concentrations including Pb, Cd, Cu, Ni, Zn and Fe in six species of Padina were determined in polluted (Nayband Bay) and unpolluted (Bostaneh port) areas on the Coast of the Persian Gulf. The mean concentrations of metals in the sediment of two locations were: Pb (12.64), Cd (3.59), Cu (21.74), Ni (17.00), Zn (32.00) and Fe (677.53) µg g-1 dry weight, respectively. In ...
